The illegal mining business of heavy minerals like ilmenite and garnet which was said to be the tune of Rs 96,000 crore is declared a false. The owner of the company alleged in the scam, Mr. S. Vaikundarajan, is proven innocent.
Apparently, this was a whole conspiracy planned and executed brilliantly by Mr. Dayadevadas, the owner of a rival company. He appointed two retired IAS officers, one of them named Ashwin Kumar and the other, V. Sundaram. They produced false documents and tricked them into a scam that they were never a part of.
Mr. Vaikundarajan, VV Minerals, has now been given a green chit by the central government. There were strick checking done at their mining premises, which proved that they were not involved in any illegal activity. The thorium scam allegations were also dismissed as the thorium content in the sands of the Gulf of Mannar is said to be very low.
VV Minerals, India mainly deals with heavy mineral mining of four minerals, namely, garnet, zircon, rutile and ilmenite. They do not deal with thorium mining.
